Who is God?
The Bible, often described as God's love letter to humanity, aims to reveal who God is and invite us to know Him. In 1 John 5:20, it is written:
"But we know that the Son of God has come and given us the understanding to know the true God, and we are in that true God, being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life."
Through the Bible, God makes Himself known to humanity, revealing His character, His love and His plan for us.

God is holy and just
When we read the first pages of the Bible, particularly the story of the creation and fall of man (Genesis 1-3), we learn that God had a perfect relationship with man, but that sin broke this closeness. And why? Because God is holy (Leviticus 19:2) and cannot tolerate sin. His holiness is absolute and His justice perfect.
However, God does not abandon mankind. He is always ready to welcome with love and mercy anyone who returns to Him with a repentant heart. His patience, goodness and love for mankind know no bounds.
In 1 John 4:16, it is written:
"And we have come to know the love God has for us, and have believed. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him."

God is love
One of the most striking features of God is His love. This love is vividly demonstrated by the sending of Jesus Christ into the world to save mankind.
"In this the love of God for us has been made manifest: that God sent his only Son into the world, that we might live through him." (1 John 4:9)
This love is not based on our merits or efforts, but on God's desire to restore our relationship with Him. Jesus is the ultimate proof of this love: He gave His life so that we might be reconciled to God (Romans 5:8).

God is unique
The Bible teaches us that there is only one God. In Deuteronomy 6:4, it is written:
"Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord."
This truth is confirmed throughout the Scriptures, notably in :
- Mark 12:29: "This is the first [commandment]: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord."
- 1 Corinthians 8:6: "Nevertheless for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we are."
- 1 Timothy 2:5: "For there is one God, and also one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."

God is Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Although God is one, he reveals himself in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are perfectly united in their divine essence.
A clear example of this truth is found in the account of Jesus' baptism in Matthew 3:13-17 :
- The Son (Jesus) is baptized.
- The Holy Spirit descends in the form of a dove.
- The Father's voice is heard from heaven, saying:
"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The Trinity is a mystery we don't fully understand, but it illustrates the richness and complexity of God's nature.

God is the Creator and sovereign
God is the Creator of all that exists. He created the universe by His word (Genesis 1:1-31), and every living thing depends on Him. He is sovereign, above all things, and nothing can limit His power.
In John 4:24, Jesus says:
"God is spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
This means that God is not limited by a physical body or location. He is eternal, having neither beginning nor end, as stated by Psalm 90:2:
"Before the mountains were born, and you created the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God."

What we need to remember:
1. God is holy: He is perfect and does not tolerate sin, but He is ready to forgive and restore those who repent.
2. God is love: His love for us is demonstrated by the sending of Jesus Christ to save us.
3. God is one: there is only one God, but He reveals Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
4. God is the Creator: He is sovereign and powerful, above all that exists.
5. God is eternal and unchanging: His existence has no beginning and no end, and His character never changes.

God is the perfect, loving and faithful Father, who wants every human being to know Him personally. Through reading the Bible, and in particular through the life of Jesus Christ, we discover who God is and how much He loves us.
Let's take the time to meditate on His attributes and share with those around us this wonderful truth: God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And as He promised, whoever seeks Him with all his heart will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).
