L'Attente: an event full of promise

Waiting can be difficult. Most of us prefer answers and results that are quick, efficient and, if possible, instantaneous. Yet waiting is an integral part of life.
We wait for seeds to grow into nourishing plants, for seasons to change, for babies to grow into adults, for trees to mature into shade. Whether we like it or not, waiting requires patience.
It can last for days, months, years or even decades: waiting for an answered prayer, a long-awaited apology, the right moment to act, or the realization of a cherished dream. This waiting, though difficult, requires courage.

King David, almost 3,000 years ago, was well aware of this reality. He too had to wait for God's chosen moment to become king, be delivered from his enemies and have his prayers answered. He wrote in the Psalms:
"Hope in the Lord! Be strong and let your heart be steadfast! Hope in the Lord" (Psalm 27:14).
If David thought it so important to repeat this call to hope in a single verse, we should pay attention. But hoping in God does not mean waiting passively.

Actively waiting on God

We can wait on God proactively:
- By keeping in touch with Him through prayer.
- By seeking His hand in the ordinary moments of everyday life.
- By reading His Word, which reveals His purposes.
- By adoring him, whatever the circumstances.
- By serving others, near and far.
- By giving thanks for all He has already offered us.
Even if a door seems closed or an opportunity is slow in coming, this doesn't mean that God is inactive. On the contrary, He often works in the shadows to prepare what He has planned.

Examples of faithful waiting

Scripture is full of examples of people who waited on God with faith:
- Noah, who spent decades building an ark before God fulfilled His promise.
- Ruth, who, after the loss of her husband, followed her mother-in-law and worked in the fields, trusting in divine providence.
- Joseph, remained faithful for years in prison before being elevated to second-in-command of Egypt.
- John, who, despite his exile on the island of Patmos, wrote several books of the New Testament by abandoning himself to God's will.
These testimonies show us that, even in waiting, God is actively working to accomplish His plans.

The insurance of waiting

Whatever challenges you face, ask God to give you the patience and faith to trust Him with your future. Even if uncertainty seems to dominate, know that when you lean on the Lord, you can learn to wait the right way. With courage and hope, remember that God's time is always perfect. "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose LORD is his Hope!" (Jeremiah17:7).

Shalom!
