A way of life

The Epistle of James is filled with practical wisdom for our daily lives. James was Jesus' brother, so his writings contain many teachings similar to the way Jesus taught in the Gospels.

James 4:17 gives us a very simple definition of sin. He says that sin also occurs when we know we can do something and we refuse to do it. When we recognize that we should do something and deliberately choose not to.

There are many ways to know what is the right and good thing to do. When we read the Scriptures, we are constantly learning how God wants us to live and what He wants us to do with our lives. We also have the Holy Spirit within us to guide and teach us.
We have no excuse for not knowing what to do in almost any situation, because God has told us how we should act. So when we decide not to live according to God's ways, we sin.

But the good thing about the Gospel is that if we sin against God, we can immediately confess our sins to Him and ask for forgiveness. Instead of persevering in what is wrong, if we confess our sins to God with a sense of regret, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us anew. This means that He blots out the sins we sincerely regret and confess to Him. And if we make the effort and God can see a real desire in us, then He will transform us completely.

Take time to think about the things you know how to do for your family, community or nation, but aren't doing. How can you change your attitude?

Don't you think you need to start by asking God for forgiveness? What can you do to change and start doing good again out of love for God?
Enjoy your meditation!
