What does the Bible say about our emotions?

Today, we're going to talk about our emotions. Sometimes we feel very strong emotions like anger, sadness or worry. But the good news is that the Bible can help us deal with these emotions. Let's find out how.

1. Not to worry

The Bible tells us not to worry. In Philippians 4:6-7 it says: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything let your needs be made known to God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
This means that when we're worried, we need to talk to God and tell him what's bothering us. In return, he will give us peace.

2. God is our refuge

In Psalm 46:1, it is written, "God is our refuge and support, a help that never fails in trouble."
When we feel sad or angry, we can turn to God. He is like a refuge, a safe place where we can find comfort and help.

3. God loves us and helps us

In 1 Peter 5:7 it says, "Cast all your cares upon him, for he himself cares for you."
God wants us to talk to him about our worries and fears, because he loves us and wants to take care of us.

How to manage our emotions with the help of the Bible

1. Pray

Prayer is a way of talking to God. When you're feeling sad, worried, or angry, you can pray and ask God to help you. For example:
"Lord, I feel very sad today. Help me to find peace and joy. Thank you for loving me and listening to me. Amen."

2. Read the Bible

Reading Bible verses can help you feel better. For example, you can reread the verses we saw today to remind yourself that God is there for you.

3. Talk to someone you trust

Sometimes talking about your emotions with a parent, friend or teacher can really help. They can pray with you and give you advice.

4. Do soothing activities

When you feel overwhelmed by your emotions, do something you enjoy and that calms you down. For example, you can draw, read, play music, or even go for a walk.
Examples of Bible verses to help you

1. Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted, and saves those who are downcast."
This means that God is very close to us when we are sad or discouraged.

2. John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be alarmed."
Jesus gives us his peace and tells us not to worry.

How to pray when you have strong emotions

Here are some examples of simple prayers you can use:

1. When you're sad :
"Lord, I feel very sad today. Please give me your peace and joy. Thank you for always being with me. Amen."

2. When you're angry:
"Lord, I'm angry and I don't know what to do. Help me to calm down and find a solution. Thank you for listening to me. Amen."

3. When you're worried :

Brothers, let's remember that God is always there to help us deal with our emotions. We can pray, read the Bible, talk to someone we trust, and do calming activities. God loves us and wants to give us his peace.
