We still have time

"I must do, while it is day, the works of him who sent me; the night is coming, when no one can work." (John 9: 4)

We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. We must stay focused and keep working hard with hope. We must be determined and never give up. We can do it, we just have to keep going. So let's not waste any more time, let's get to work!

For those who believe in Jesus Christ, this verse is an encouragement to keep the faith, and to contribute to the advancement of the Lord's work on earth. It is a privilege to be a worker with Christ and a worker for God. How wonderful it is to serve Him and proclaim His gospel. Service is noble, but it's while we're still alive here on earth that we should enjoy it. After death, it is already impossible to serve. (Mat. 28:19)

For those who don't yet believe, this parable invites them to give their lives to Jesus and serve him. This is possible while we are still alive. Prayers and wake never change the dead man's situation before God. If he has died without Christ, it's eternal condemnation. It will be too late one day. (Psalms 6:5; Isaiah 38:18)

Jesus Christ knew this. While he still had his freedom, he knew he had to do all his work as quickly as possible (full of teachings and miracles). He knew he was going to be arrested for crucifixion. That time had already been set. Hence the spirit of this verse (Mat. 9:4).

We are not eternal on earth, and no one can control their own time while we take the time to enjoy life. But enjoying life also means working for the glory of God. And what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his own soul? (Mark 8:36)
