Understanding Leviticus 20:26 - God's holiness

Leviticus is a biblical book full of laws and commandments. It is often considered one of the most difficult books to understand and put into practice. However, it's important to delve into God's Word to understand its teachings, so let's look in detail at verse 20:26 of Leviticus, which tells us about God's holiness and our call to be holy.

Verse 20:26 of Leviticus is a poignant reminder of the call to holiness that God has placed on our lives. The text is clear - "You will be holy to me, for I, the Lord, am holy and have set you apart from other peoples so that you may belong to me." It means that God has chosen us to be different and special, to have a relationship with him that is founded on holiness.

But what is holiness?

Holiness can be defined as purity, perfection and separation from sin. It is a state that God desires for each of His children. In the Old Testament, priests were called to be holy because they were God's representatives before the people. Today, as Christians, we are God's representatives on this earth, and so we too are called to be holy.

However, being holy is not something we can achieve on our own. It is a state that is granted by God because of our relationship with him. When we receive Jesus Christ as our savior, we are justified before God and become holy in him. However, this does not mean that we are freed from the responsibility of living in holiness. In fact, the Bible continually exhorts us to live in holiness by having a close relationship with God.

The consequence of our call to holiness is that we are called to be different from other people. We must have a way of life that reflects our relationship with God. This may seem difficult, especially in a world where it's easy to give in to temptation and sin. But if we cling to God and his Word, we can live in holiness.

Shalom!
