The Power of Good Deeds
As Christians, we are called to do good deeds. But why? What's the point of good deeds if they don't earn us salvation? The answer is found in 1 Peter 2:15-16. "For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence ignorant and foolish men, being free, not making freedom a veil to cover wickedness, but acting as servants of God." When we do good deeds, we show Christ's love to others. We also silence critics who claim that Christianity is nothing more than a system of oppression. Finally, we act as God's servants, which is what we are called to do.
Doing good deeds silences critics
One of the best things about good deeds is that they silence the critics. There will always be people who say that Christianity is nothing but a system of oppression. But when they see Christians living out their faith through acts of service, they begin to realize that Christianity is more than meets the eye. Doing good deeds shows that we are followers of Christ, and that our faith is more than words. It's actions.
Doing good deeds shows Christ's love
When we do good deeds, we show Christ's love to others. We meet needs and show compassion. This is what Jesus did when He came to earth. He did not come to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). When we follow His example and serve others, we show them the love of Christ. And what could be more important than that?
Doing good deeds means acting as God's servants
Finally, when we do good deeds, we are acting as God's servants. This is what we are called to do (1 Peter 2:16). We are called to serve others and meet their needs. When we do this, we glorify God and show His love to those around us. What could be more satisfying than that?
