Characteristics of God's children: (1 John 3:1-24)
He practices righteousness: "If you know that he is righteous, recognize that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him." (1 John 2: 29)
He keeps the hope of his future incorruptible nature: "Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we shall be has not yet been manifested; but we know that when it is manifested we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." (1 John 3:2)
He does not practice sin: "Whoever is born of God does not practice sin, because the seed of God dwells in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." (1 John 3:9)
He is compassionate: "Little children, let us not love in word and tongue, but in deed and truth." (1 John 3: 18)
He believes in Jesus Christ and loves his neighbor as himself: "And this is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, according to the commandment he gave us." (1 John 3:23)
He keeps God's Word, which he meditates on daily: "He who keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him" (1 John 3:24).
He has the Holy Spirit and God listens to him: "He dwells in us through the Spirit he has given us." (1 John 3:24)
He has the assurance of eternal life and abides in the truth in all things.
