Praying for Peace

If we can't control our circumstances physically, we'll focus on them mentally and our thoughts will go round and round. This is exactly why Paul advises us not to worry about anything, because he knows the consequences of anxiety.

Paul, author of the epistle to the Philippians, writes:

Do not be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:6)." This is not a suggestion or a recommendation. If you take this warning lightly, you will live in constant fear and everything will plunge you into anxiety.

Paul proposes three antidotes to teach us how to break the cycle of worry:

Prayer: share your worries with God. Abandon your tormented thoughts and trust in God's sovereign power over your circumstances.
The request: make a fervent request to the One who has the authority to intervene. His power is great enough to restore all that has been broken in your life.
Praise: being grateful preserves our hearts. Worship delivers us from the clutches of anxiety. Thank God for the beautiful sunset, the blooming flowers, the falling snow, the daily meal and the warm blanket on a cold day. We can always find reasons to thank God.

Paul promises that God's peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus when we practice prayer, supplication and praise. We won't have to worry about anything if we make all our needs known to God. Nothing is too small or insignificant.
If you care, God cares. He cares about every detail of your life. Let prayer change the way you feel and turn your worries into peace.
