Crossing the Trials
Let's start by deconstructing a myth: nowhere in Scripture does God promise a perfect, trouble-free life. On the contrary, many times in the Bible, Christ's followers find themselves prey to persecution, attacks and tribulations of all kinds.
In his letter to first-century believers, James prepares them for the various trials they will face:
"Blessed is the man who patiently endures temptation, for after he has been tested he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love him" James 1:12
When we see trials as a way of becoming more like Jesus, they become a blessing for us.
Think of a difficult season in your life. Looking back, you can probably identify how God used that trial to purify you. God often works behind the scenes to transform our character and stretch our boundaries, even when we can't see it.
Maybe you're going through one of those difficult seasons right now. So seize this passage. Persevere, knowing that a reward awaits us in heaven. Certainly, no reward is promised to us on this earth. However, we look to our future life with Jesus, and that gives us hope to endure the trials of the present.
If you're currently going through a difficult season of life, take some time to meditate on God's promises. He has promised never to abandon you or leave you, but to be with you in the midst of trials. Then, when you've overcome them, you'll be more like Christ.
Take a moment to thank God for his faithfulness and love in your life.
