Model witnesses

That's why we, too, who are surrounded by such a host of witnesses, must rid ourselves of every burden, and of the sin that so easily encircles us on all sides, and run with endurance the trial that is set before us. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who has opened the way to faith and who brings it to perfection. Because he had in view the joy that was reserved for him, he endured death on the cross, despising the shame attached to such a torment, and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God. Think of him who endured such opposition to him from sinful men, so that you will not be discouraged. (Hebrews 12:1-3)

So, to build a building, you need to carry out an in-depth feasibility study of a set of elements capable of ensuring that the project runs smoothly right through to completion. First and foremost, every project must be brought to a satisfactory conclusion. The study of the witnesses of faith will help us to have a perfectly solid faith. The Lord presents them to us as models to follow.

Who are our models of faith, because our commitment to Christ depends on them? When we commit ourselves without discerning the precursors of faith, it's easy to give up at the first slip. Paul said, "Be imitators of me, as I myself am of Christ (1Cor. 11:1)." His faith wouldn't be what it is today if he hadn't identified himself with someone greater than himself. For in this he found invaluable sources of motivation, encouragement, strength, and good behavior in the Christian life. There are many examples around us and in the Bible:

- Abraham, the father of the faith that brought him to the land of Canaan at God's command, needs no introduction. He believed in the promised innumerable posterity. He had a special relationship with God. God was with him.
- Daniel, "My judge is my God", remained faithful to his God in deportation. Throughout his life, his faith was unshakeable, despite the threats and torments he endured. Nothing could keep him from his faith, for only God saves. God was with him.
