He humiliated himself...
Isaiah 53:1-3
[1] Who has believed what was announced to us? Who has recognized the arm of the Lord?
[2] It rose up before him like a weak plant, like a shoot coming out of a parched earth; it had no beauty or brilliance to attract our eyes, and its appearance had nothing to please us.
[3] Despised and abandoned by men, a man of sorrows and accustomed to suffering, like one whose face is turned away, we have despised him, we have paid him no heed.
Why did Jesus humble himself to such an extent? He who is God and in whom dwells the fullness of divinity?
Philippians 2:6-8
[6] who, existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal with God a prey to be snatched away.
[7], but stripped himself, taking on the form of a servant, becoming like men;
[8] and having appeared as a mere man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Jesus Christ had taken on the form of a servant to fulfill God's will for mankind.
Isaiah 53:11
[11] Because of the travail of his soul, he will satisfy his eyes; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many men, and he will take up their iniquities.
What, then, was the work Jesus did? What did God want him to do?
Hebrews 10:4-7
[4] For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
[5] Therefore Christ, entering into the world, said, "You did not desire a sacrifice or an offering, but formed me into a body;
[6] You have not accepted burnt offerings or sacrifices for sin.
[7] Then I said, "Behold, I come into the scroll of the book, and it speaks of me to do, O God, thy will.
The blood of goats could not permanently remove sins...
The sacrifices offered each year under the Old Covenant were not able to bring those present to perfection forever, since the memory of sins was renewed each year by these sacrifices...
This is why God had Jesus Christ form a body to come and take away sins once and for all, so that the problem of sin would be solved once and for all.
Hebrews 10:10,14
[10] It is in virtue of this will that we are sanctified, by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once and for all.
[14] For by a single offering he has brought to perfection for ever those who are sanctified.
Because of the will of God that Jesus Christ has accomplished, God no longer sees you as a sinner, but as one who has already been justified, sanctified and brought to perfection through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ.
Jesus humbled Himself to reconcile us to God and make us legitimate, righteous, holy and perfect children of God through faith.
Therefore God also has highly exalted him and given him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil 2:9-11).
