Happy if you keep the Covenant

Is it not so with my house before God, since he has made with me an everlasting covenant, in all points well regulated and offering full security? Will he not bring forth all my salvation and all my desires? (2Samuel 23:5)

In this text, King David reminds us of the covenant God made with him, an eternal covenant. All God's covenants are eternal. "I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your descendants after you, according to their generations: it will be an everlasting covenant, by virtue of which I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you." (Genesis 17:7)

In this covenant, there is a commitment and a promise from God. And such a covenant is valid as long as both parties remember it. If God cannot forget, then everything depends on man for the covenant to be fulfilled over time. All God's promises are fulfilled as long as man remembers them and reminds him of them in his prayers. So we can see that it's essential for us to keep the covenant alive in our hearts and minds, through our words and actions. Only then will God's blessings be fully realized in our lives.

The Bible contains all God's promises. David knew that, whatever difficulties he might encounter, he had God's covenant and promise. They were fulfilled in the time fixed in Jesus Christ.

"Though the mountains should depart, Though the hills should stagger, My love shall not depart from you, Nor shall my covenant of peace stagger, says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 41:10)

God is a covenant-keeping God. He will keep his promises to us, and we can be at peace because of it. David trusted that despite the circumstances around him, he could always trust God's faithfulness. We can too! When we're going through difficult times, let's remember that our faithful God is with us and will lead us to victory. What promise of God do you need to hold on to today?

God lives and his covenant endures. Have you forgotten?
