God calls us to his service
In the first ten chapters, we saw how man is made righteous by God through his faith, not his works. Moreover, the hardening of part of Israel was a gateway for Gentiles to become part of God's people. Having obtained election, God wants to show us in this passage the duty of a Christian, that is, his child. He wants to see him at his service, perhaps in a congregation, but it is possible to serve him anywhere and by any means. Provided we put our minds to it (Luke 17:7-10). Three things to remember in this passage:
The Call: Every Christian is called. The Lord calls His children, members of His people. He wants us to offer our hearts, our minds, our time, our possessions, etc., for the advancement of His work.
Characteristics of a servant: The servant does not conform to the world, but rather models the world in what is in conformity with God's will. He is not pretentious, does not go beyond what inspires him, but must be humble.
What kind of service? Each of us has a gift that the Holy Spirit administers within us. God has entrusted gifts so that His Church may be solidly held together to win souls for the kingdom and glorify Him alone. Thus, there are gifts of prophecy, teaching, specific ministry, exhortation, management, etc., but each must exercise his gift with joy, zeal, without murmuring or constraint.
Let's remember that the Lord will call us to account for the faith he has given us, the gift he has entrusted to us, the call he has addressed to us (read Luke 19:11-27), etc.
