Don't lower your arms
Can you think of a recent moment when you went through something so difficult, you just felt like giving up, but you didn't? Where did you draw your strength from? What kept you going?
One of the most incredible things about being a disciple of Christ is that our own strength is only part of the equation. God's strength wells up within us. Psalm 46:1 says: "God is for us a refuge and a support, a help that never fails in our distress. "What an incredible statement, which doesn't say "a help that is sometimes present". He is "a help that is always present."
In 2 Chronicles 15, we see that Asa, king of Judah, was facing major challenges. He was trying to refocus the nation of Judah on God after years of idolatry and war. He was facing an enormous challenge! Through the prophet Azariah, God gave him this encouragement to strengthen him:
"You therefore, strengthen yourselves, and do not let your hands grow weak, for there will be a reward for your works." 2 Chronicles 15:7
God knew all the details and stakes of the problem Asa was facing. God also knew the strength He could provide to someone willing to rely on Him. He didn't say, "Good luck, it looks tough, try not to mess it up." He said, "You therefore, strengthen yourselves, and do not let your hands grow weak, for there will be a reward for your works."
Just as Asa heard these words and gained courage, we too can gain courage. So we are not alone. So we can count on God's strength. The reward is coming. Don't give up.
