David's legacy
Morning worship on June 2, 2022
This morning we discover another side of David in (1 Kings 2:1-12), the father of Solomon, the man after God's own heart.
At the feet of death, he passes on recommendations to his son Solomon, he recommends observing God's commandments to succeed (as it is written in verses 3 and 4) :
-V3) "Follow faithfully the commands of the Lord your God, walking in the ways he has prescribed and obeying his statutes, his commandments, his articles of law and his ordinances, as recorded in the Law of Moses. Then you will be successful in everything you undertake and everywhere you go."
-V4) and so the Lord will fulfill the promise he made to me when he said, "If your descendants watch over their conduct to live faithfully according to my will with all their heart and being, there will always be one of them on the throne of Israel."
This is the legacy that David leaves to his son Solomon. Let's remember that David doesn't say this to all the children he had, but only to one, the one who was very close to him, very intimate. The others were interested in material things. Like Absalon, who wanted to kill his father for the throne, or Adonijah, who proclaimed himself king while his father was still alive. They received nothing. But it is Solomon who receives the inheritance, and his father's secrets.
Do you want to enjoy God's inheritance? Seek intimacy with God. (Matthew 6:33) "Therefore make God's kingdom and what is right in his sight your primary concern, and all these things will be given to you in addition."
Intimacy with God is the key to a successful life. When we make him our first concern, and put him before everything else in our lives, he promises to take care of us. We can trust that his Word is true, and that when we seek him with all our heart, we will find him.
Has intimacy with God been your primary concern lately?
If not, why not make that change today? Look for it and see how your life changes for the better!
Solomon received wealth and secrets from his father, for he was close to Him. Remain in God's presence and you will be blessed.
