A Solid Foundation

We live in a wonderful but broken and corrupt world, which makes it inevitable that we will experience or see different levels of suffering. However, followers of Jesus have the privilege of being rescued by The Lord in their time of trials and difficulties.

Here's what Peter says:

"You will have to suffer a little longer. But God, the source of all grace, has called you to share in His eternal glory in union with Jesus Christ; He Himself will perfect you, strengthen you, fortify you and establish you on firm foundations."" Amen
1 Peter 5:10, NFC

Just before writing these words, Peter reminds us that we are not the only ones suffering. Indeed, throughout the world, other believers are facing trials and difficulties that we can't even begin to imagine. And yet, they remain steadfast and faithful, without denying Christ, the object of their hope...

Jesus lived the perfect life, as a man, that we could not live. He experienced a brutal death that we should have known, and He rose again so that we could be forgiven and receive new life. His desire is that we should be with Him forever. He invites us to share in His eternal glory. His glory lasts forever, but our difficulties last only a moment.

In fact, Jesus wants his disciples not to tremble in the face of trials. In God's eyes, grief is temporary, suffering is fleeting and even death is a short-term condition. In the end, God will wipe away all our tears once and for all, eliminating pain, sadness and weeping forever. God will make all things new. Hallelujah! Revelation 21:4-5

This is the solid foundation God planned to lay in our lives before time began. It is the good foundation that will accompany us into eternity.

So, whatever you're going through right now, no matter how difficult, horrible or heartbreaking, cling to this truth, The Lord is not far from his sheep when they suffer. Take heart, for deliverance is at hand! Don't tremble, don't be discouraged, but be strengthened in Christ to go on to the end and remain faithful.
