After Lot's rescue, Abraham met two kings in the Valley of Shaveh. The king of Sodom, Berah, greeted Abraham, but the king of Salem, Melchizedek, brought bread and wine and blessed Abraham. Why did these two kings appear in this valley?

The names of the kings, Bera ("son of evil" in Hebrew) and Melchizedek ("king of justice" in Hebrew), suggest that this valley was an important place of choice for Abraham. It was here that he had to decide between justice and evil. In the Scriptures, "to reach the valley of Shaveh" meant "to reach a compromise".
