Your awareness

Jesus is the only one who can give you the peace you seek. Seek it from him, and from no one else.

When your conscience is troubled by the sense of your sins, beware of seeking relief elsewhere than in the blood of Christ; your heart would only harden further.

Don't look for peace in your works, or in your tears, or anywhere else. Go to Jesus Christ, with confidence, and tell him all your problems. He will listen and help you carry your burden. Trust in his mercy and love, and he will give you the strength to overcome your trials.
He is your peace (Eph. II, 14). Your peace is in him. So when your conscience is troubled, go to Jesus and ask him to forgive you. His blood will wash away your sins and give you inner peace and beyond.

Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will ease your burden" (Mt. XI, 28). And again: "Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart" (Mt. XI, 29). Throw yourselves at his feet, tell him of all your troubles, ask him for forgiveness and peace, for he is ready to give them to you in abundance.

Only the blood of Christ can cleanse your conscience of sin (I Jn. I, 7-9). So say like David: "Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean; wash me and I shall be whiter than snow" (Psalm LI, 7). And don't be afraid to freely approach this fountain of mercy: "The blood of Jesus, her Son, cleanses us from all sin".

Trusting in good works is no less distancing from the Savior than attachment to sin. As long as your spiritual gaze is fixed solely on him, Jesus asks only what you are willing and able to do. Lean on him, so that the whole weight of your body and soul rests on his person. But be careful not to rest one foot on your own righteousness, while you rest the other on divine righteousness.
