Intercede for Others
It is written: "1 The Lord Jehovah sent me this vision. Behold, grasshoppers were forming, Just as the regrowth was beginning to grow; It was the regrowth after the king's cutting. 2 And as they devoured the grass of the earth entirely, I said, Lord LORD, forgive therefore! How shall Jacob endure? For he is so weak! 3 The Lord repented of this. This will not happen, says the Lord.
4 The Lord Jehovah sent me this vision. Behold, the Lord Jehovah proclaimed punishment by fire; And the fire devoured the great deep And devoured the field. 5 I said, Lord Jehovah, stop it! How can Jacob endure? For he is so weak! 6 The Lord repented of this. This too shall not come to pass, says the Lord Jehovah.
7 He sent me this vision. Behold, the Lord was standing on a line-drawn wall, And he had a level in his hand. 8 The Lord said to me, What do you see, Amos? I said, "A level. And the Lord said, I will put the level in the midst of my people Israel, I will forgive them no more; 9 The high places of Isaac shall be laid waste; The sanctuaries of Israel shall be destroyed, And I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword." (Amos 7: 1 - 9).
This chapter of Amos encourages God's children to intercede for one another, as a mark of love.
They don't know what they're doing. That's why on the cross, instead of condemning, Jesus Christ prayed for his executioners and for all mankind. "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." He said. (Luke 23:34)
So, a brother whose actions astonish needs prayers. It's often difficult to know whether he's conscious or tormented by an evil spirit. Let's pray for him anyway.
Weakness. At that time, Amos began to intercede for Israel, for Israel is so weak! (Amos 7:1-6) We too are so weak as to need the prayers of the brethren, even if we give the impression of being strong-minded. But there are moments of weakness when a brother's prayer would be most welcome.
A problem of faith. The apostle James teaches that the prayer of the righteous has great effectiveness, for God hears the righteous who believe what he says (James 5:16). The Lord answers prayers made with faith. This faith may be lacking in a brother at a given moment.
Two are better than one. Jesus Christ says: "Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth to ask for anything, it will be granted to them by my Father in heaven." (Mat. 18: 19)
In any case, God's will is that we pray for each other in danger.
May God bless you abundantly!
