The Promises of Psalm 91 in Times of Crisis: What Does the Bible Teach?
In difficult times like the current crisis, we need to be reminded of divine promises to reassure and comfort us. Among the most powerful Psalms for this purpose is Psalm 91. This psalm is so comforting that it is commonly called " the psalm of protection ". In this article, we'll explore the promises of Psalm 91 and what they mean for us in times of crisis.
1. Divine protection :
Psalm 91 begins with a promise of divine protection: "He who dwells under the shelter of the Most High rests under the shadow of the Almighty. I say to the Lord: My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust!" (Verses 1-2) This promise is offered to all who seek refuge in God's protection. It means that we can find peace and comfort in knowing that we are under God's protection.
2. Protection against disease :
In verse 3, the psalmist declares that he will protect his people from the snares of disease: "For it is he who delivers you from the fowler's net, from the plague and its ravages".. This promise is particularly important at a time when the world is facing a pandemic. So we can rely on God's protection to keep us healthy.
3. Protection against enemies :
Verse 7 promises that we will be protected against external enemies: "A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but you shall not be harmed.". This promise is important, because it shows us that even when we are surrounded by danger, we are under divine protection. This gives us the strength to carry on, even when faced with difficult challenges.
4. Protection against anxiety and fear :
Another important aspect of the promises in Psalm 91 is protection against anxiety and fear. Verse 5 promises that we will not fear the terrors of the night or the arrow that flies by day. This means that even when we are faced with moments of great anguish, we can find peace and comfort under divine protection.
5. Protection against Death :
Finally, the psalmist promises that God will protect us from death itself: "You shall tread on the lion and the asp; you shall tread on the young lion and the dragon. Because he loves me, I will deliver him; I will protect him, since he knows my name." (Verses 13-14) This promise is particularly powerful in helping us overcome the fear of death. We can find peace in the security of divine protection.
In these difficult times, we need to remember God's promises to us in Psalm 91. This psalm offers us divine protection against sickness, external enemies, fear and death. We can find peace and comfort in knowing that we are under God's protection.
May these promises remind us that, whatever happens, we are never alone and are always under the protection of the Lord Almighty.
God bless you all!
