The Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus

The Bible's teaching on Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection

The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are two of the most important events in Christianity. According to the Bible, it was through this act that Christ brought salvation and justice to all believers. After his death on the cross, Jesus rose three days later and ascended to heaven, where he now sits at the right hand of God. Let's see what the Bible tells us about these two momentous events.

The crucifixion of Jesus

Jesus' crucifixion is recounted in the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. According to the Scriptures, Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, and arrested by Roman soldiers in Gethsemane. He was then brought before Pontius Pilate, and sentenced to death by crucifixion. On the hill of Calvary (also known as Golgotha), Jesus was nailed to a cross between two criminals, where he suffered greatly before dying.

The resurrection of Jesus

Jesus' resurrection is also recounted in the four Gospels. According to the Scriptures, after three days in the tomb (what we now call Easter Sunday), an angel descended from heaven and rolled away the stone from the entrance to Christ's tomb. When Mary Magdalene arrived at the tomb, she met this angel, who told her that Christ had risen. Later that day, Jesus appeared to his disciples and taught them many things about faith in him, before ascending to heaven forty days later.

It is through these two events : his crucifixion and resurrection, that Christ has ensured the salvation of all believers who put their faith in him. As Christians, we celebrate these events every year during Holy Week, which precedes Easter Sunday, when we remember that our Lord died on the Cross, so that we might be forgiven of our sins and one day have eternal life with Him in Heaven.

May we never forget or take lightly what Christ has done for us!

Amen!
