The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, according to the Bible
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is one of the most important events in Christianity. And it is described in detail in all four Gospels. It is a crucial element of the Christian faith, and a reminder that we should never forget the grace God has shown us through the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior.
Let's see what the Bible has to say about this crucial moment in history.
The Bible describes Jesus' crucifixion as having been carried out unjustly by Roman soldiers, on the orders of Pontius Pilate, who had been commissioned by the Jewish authorities to carry out his sentence.
All four Gospels agree that Jesus was marked with a sign above his head that read "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews" while on the cross, he uttered seven final words: Father, forgive them: "they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34), "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43), "Woman, behold your son" (John 19:26), "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? "(Matthew 27:46), "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46), "It is finished" (John 19:30), "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit" (Luke 23:46) and finally, "I thirst" (John 19:28).
The crucifixion took place outside Jerusalem, on Mount Calvary or Golgotha, which means "the place of the skull" in Aramaic. After his death on the cross, Jesus was buried in a nearby tomb belonging to Joseph of Arimathea. Three days later, he was resurrected, as prophesied in Isaiah 53. This event is a powerful reminder to Christians that suffering is synonymous with redemption and the hope of salvation and eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is an incredibly important event in Christianity, and its implications are far-reaching for believers today. By studying what the Scriptures say about this sacrifice made on behalf of humanity, we can better understand, how much God loves us, and how He sent His only Son to be our Savior so that we can receive forgiveness for our sins, and live eternally with Him in paradise.
As we read the Scriptures relating to his crucifixion and resurrection, we can take comfort in knowing that he offered us an immeasurable gift of grace when we needed it most.
Amen!
