The Road to Success

There are many definitions of success in today's world. For some, success is defined by the number of achievements accomplished or the number of possessions accumulated.

Jesus' definition of success is counter-cultural. It has nothing to do with our accomplishments or acquisitions: it's all about our character.

Jesus' teaching in Luke 16:10 is mainly about our character. He says that he who is faithful in the least things will also be faithful in the greatest. Those who have been faithful in what they have received will be entrusted with greater things. And those who are dishonest, unjust and untrustworthy, in managing what belongs to others, are not qualified to receive any reward.
In other words, the key to success, for Jesus, is not to amass a lot of money in one's life - although money does help, but to succeed in being faithful, honest and loyal, and in doing well and completing what has already been entrusted to us.

So, heaven evaluates our small acts of fidelity, honesty and integrity, as they shape our character over time. The small decisions and difficult choices of everyday life are what turn us into trustworthy, sincere people, or not.

If you ask God for more in life, make sure you're faithful with the things He's already given you. So use the resources and opportunities you've already received, to build a relationship of trust and honesty with others. Because you know that heaven is watching.

This is God's call to us: He's looking for people who have developed a certain character, not stars and the rich. So pray that God will strengthen your character and give you the opportunities to become a faithful and honest person in all areas of life.

Amen!
