The 8 Covenants of the Bible
A guide to the promises of God's grace
The Bible is full of God's promises and covenants with us. These covenants are his way of showing us his deep love and care for us, even if we don't fully understand him. They give us the assurance that he will meet our needs and accompany us on our spiritual journey. Here's a A guide to the 8 covenants of the Bible, and an overview of their meaning.
Abraham's covenant
The Bible's first covenant is found in Genesis 12-17 and is known as the Abrahamic Covenant. This covenant was established between Abraham and God, in which God promised to make Abraham a great nation, bless his descendants, give them land, be their God and bless those who blessed Abraham. This covenant was fulfilled by Jesus Christ, since he came from the line of Abraham.
The mosaic alliance
The second covenant is found in Exodus 19-24 and is known as the Mosaic Covenant or Sinai Covenant. It was established between God and Israel at Mount Sinai, when they were liberated from Egypt. In this covenant, God promised to be Israel's God if Israel obeyed Him and followed His laws. This covenant came to an end when Jesus came to Earth, as it was a temporary agreement designed to direct people to salvation through Christ.
The Davidic alliance
The third covenant is found in 2 Samuel 7 and is also known as the Davidic covenant. In this covenant, God promised King David that one of his descendants would always sit on the throne of Israel forever. This promise was fulfilled by Jesus Christ, born of David's line centuries later.
Noah's covenant
The fourth covenant is found in Genesis 9-17 and is also known as the Noahide Covenant or Eternal Covenant because it will never end (Genesis 9:16). In this covenant, God promised never again to destroy all life on Earth because of man's sin by flooding it again (Genesis 9:11).
The priestly covenant
The fifth covenant is found in Numbers 25-28 and is also known as the priestly or Levitical covenant, as it specifically concerned the priests serving in the tabernacle (Numbers 18). It included laws on offerings, sacrifices, priestly ordination, dietary laws for priests, tithes to support religious practices (Leviticus 27), etc., all geared towards redemption through Jesus Christ later in history.
The New
Jerusalem The sixth covenant is found in Revelation 21-22 and is also known as the New Jerusalem or Millennial Reign covenant, as it specifically concerns what will happen during Christ's 1,000-year reign on Earth, during which there will be peace among all nations (Revelation 20).
The New Testament or New Mosaic Covenant
The seventh covenant is found throughout the New Testament, but especially in Galatians 3-4, where Paul explains that this New Testament fulfills everything contained in Moses' writings on the law (Galatians 3:24). This new covenant promises eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ instead of strict adherence to the Old Testament law (Galatians 3:26).
The eternal covenant of the New Testament
Finally, we come to our eighth and last biblical covenant, the eternal covenant of the New Testament, found in Hebrews 13 and Revelation 22 and 23 where it says that we are saved forever by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Hebrews 10; Ephesians 2), and that God will never break his covenant with us (Revelation 22 and 23) because it comes from himself and is eternal in nature (Hebrews 13).
As living Christians today, we have many reasons to hope and be encouraged by the biblical covenants God has made with us throughout history, from Abraham to Jesus Christ, our Savior and the savior of all mankind against corruption and the influence of evil in the universe, as well as our founder and righteous representative on Earth forever!
These 8 commitments are an amazing demonstration of God's greatness, as they promise us that, no matter what we encounter in our lives today or in the future, God does not leave us alone, but rather walks beside us, guiding us so we can see what is His dividing plan for our lives!
God bless you all!
Bless you for all your efforts to advance the ministry of our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST in every corner of the earth!
Long live all those people who fight night and day for the word of our Lord JESUS the CHRIST!!!!
