Fearless
Fear as "an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat."
As Christians, we are not immune to fear. We experience it just like everyone else. The difference lies in how we deal with it. When we look our fears in the face and confront them with the truth of who God is, we can overcome them. Here are three ways to do it.
1. Recognize your fear
The first step to overcoming your fear is to recognize that you are afraid. It's normal to be afraid. You're not weak or less of a Christian because you're afraid. In fact, acknowledging your fear is a sign of strength. It takes courage to admit you're afraid. But once you do, you can begin to deal with your fear in a healthy way.
2. Confront your fear with the truth of who God is
Once you've recognized your fear, it's time to confront it with the truth of who God is. When you meditate on Scripture and spend time in prayer, knowing and seeking to know God. You begin to see things from God's point of view. And when you see things from His point of view, your fears will begin to dissipate. Why? Because you'll realize that there's nothing to be afraid of when God is in charge! He is sovereign and he is good. He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). So trust him!
3. Act in spite of your fear
The final step in overcoming your fear is to act in spite of it. This doesn't mean that your fear will disappear completely. But it does mean that you'll be able to move forward even though you're afraid. When you take action, even in small steps, to achieve your goals, you'll begin to see that there's nothing to be afraid of after all! And as you continue to take courageous steps forward, your fear will diminish until it disappears altogether.
Don't let fear stop you from living the life God has called you to live! Acknowledge your fears, confront them with the truth of who God is, and act in spite of them. By doing so, you'll overcome your fears and live a life full of boldness and courage!
