Honor everyone
Honor everyone; love your brothers; fear God; honor the King (1 Peter 2:17).
In a world increasingly filled with dishonor, it's refreshing to remember that there are still things, and people, worthy of honor. The Bible tells us to honor everyone, love our brothers and fear God. And even if we don't always agree with the decisions of our earthly rulers, we're still called to honor them. So how can we do that? Let's take a closer look.
How to honor everyone
The first step in honoring everyone is to consider each person as created in the image of God. This means treating them with respect and dignity, whatever their situation in life. It also means we must speak kindly to them and about them. We must not gossip or slander anyone, but rather edify them with our words. Finally, we must be generous to them, giving of our time, talents and resources.
How to love our brothers
The second step in honoring everyone is to love our brothers and sisters. This means putting their needs before our own, and showing them Christ-like love at all times. We must also forgive them when they sin against us and be gracious to them when they fail in their duties. Ultimately, our aim must be to help them grow in their relationship with Christ so that they can experience all the joy and peace that comes from walking with Him.
How to fear God
The third step in honoring everyone is to fear God. This means we must revere Him and be impressed by His greatness. We must also obey His commandments and follow His will for our lives. When we fear God, we strive to live in a way that is pleasing to Him.
How to honor the king
The fourth step in honoring everyone is to honor the king (or queen). This means that we show respect to those who have been placed in a position of authority over us. It doesn't mean we agree with everything they do or say, but it does mean we treat them with courtesy and respect. We are also called to pray for them, that they will lead wisely and well.
In a world filled with dishonor, it can be easy to get carried away by the negative and forget the main things that are: people who are still worthy of honor.
The Bible clearly tells us that we are to honor everyone, love our brothers, fear God and honor the King (or Queen). While this may seem difficult at times, it is possible by taking things one step at a time and remembering who ultimately deserves our honor and allegiance, God Himself. So let's move forward and honor those around us as for the Lord!
