God wants to put you in the spotlight
(First read John 2: 1 - 11)
"1 Three days later, a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2 and Jesus was also invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3 When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." 4 Jesus answered her, "Woman, what is there between me and you? My hour has not yet come. 5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you. 6 Now there were six stone vessels there, for the purifications of the Jews, each containing two or three measures. 7 Jesus said to them, "Fill these vessels with water. And they filled them to the brim. 8 He said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the person who was to prepare the meal. And they did. 9 When the host tasted the water turned into wine, not knowing where the wine came from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew, he called the bridegroom to him 10 and said, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the not-so-good wine after they've gotten drunk; you've kept the good wine until now.
11 This was the first of Jesus' miracles at Cana in Galilee. He manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him."
This passage recounts Jesus' first miracle at the wedding in Cana. Nowhere is there any mention of the names of the bride and groom, or of the officiants.
The denouement or plot of this wedding feast is marked by the lack of wine. It took the lack of wine to make us think of the ablution vessels. These had been hidden far behind. Now it was from these vessels that the miracle was to take place. God is about to create a shortcoming, a deficiency somewhere, so that you will be brought to light. God is going to create a situation to restore your dignity and your level of consideration.
-Vasthi made the mistakes and Esther took her place.
- Haman wanted to tarnish Mordecai's image, but he was totally confused and it was Mordecai who took the ascendancy.
- Potiphar's wife arranged for Joseph to be put in prison. Little did she know that this prison would be a stepping stone and an elevator for him.
From the beginning of the feast, it was the wine provided for the bride and groom that was in the spotlight. But when there was a shortage, the vessels used for ablution were highlighted.
It's not the start that's important, it's the finish. The Bible says that the end of a thing is better than its beginning.
Indeed, it was Jesus' touch that turned the water into wine. We all know that good water is colorless, odorless and tasteless. Christ gave color, odor and flavor to the water.
Just as he brought those stone vessels back to honor, so he can do the same for you; just as he turned that water into wine, so he can bring about a metamorphosis in your life. People who have seen you in tears for so long will see your face beaming with joy. You were not created for dishonor !
