The Disciples, salt of the earth and light of the world
That they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven.
I am the God who lifts up and blesses. I have called you to be the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its taste, it is no longer useful. It will be thrown away and trampled underfoot by men. But I will restore you, and you will be useful to me again. You are the salt of the earth, and I have called you to be my people. Be salt for me, and let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16).
As Christians, we are called to be the salt of the earth. This means exerting a positive influence on the world and making a difference in our communities. We must be examples of goodness, compassion, mercy, empathy, kindness and love... However, if we lose our flavor, or stop living our faith, we become useless.
We were created to glorify God and to do good works. But sometimes we become like salt that has lost its flavor and is good only for being thrown away and trodden underfoot. We can become so focused on our own lives and our own problems that we forget God and the needs of others. We can get discouraged and think that our good works will never make a difference. But if we keep doing good works and glorifying God in everything we do, then we will be an effective force for good in the world.
People will see our good works and glorify God. And as we continue to do good works, we will be transformed more and more into the image of Christ. We will become like salt that has regained its flavor and is able to season the world with God's love.
