What does God require of us?
The Bible is clear about what God expects of us. He gave us clear instructions in Micah 6:8, which reads: "It has been made known to you, O man, what is good; and what the Lord requires of you is that you do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." This verse says a lot about how we should live our lives as Christians, and those who don't believe can also benefit from its wisdom.
Let's explore the three things this passage tells us to do.
Doing justice
The first thing God demands is that we do justice. This doesn't just mean obeying the law, but living a life of integrity and doing what's right in all circumstances, even if it's difficult or unpopular. It also means treating others fairly and being honest in our dealings with them. We must strive to always act fairly in our conversations and decisions, regardless of the people involved or the outcome.
Loving mercy
The second thing God calls us to do is to love mercy. In other words, He wants us to show kindness and compassion to others at all times. This involves being forgiving when someone wrongs us, helping those less fortunate than ourselves, and empathizing with those who are suffering or struggling with difficult circumstances. We must remember that God shows mercy to all, whatever their past mistakes or present circumstances, we must strive to imitate His example by showing mercy to others too.
Walk humbly with your God
Finally, this passage tells us to walk humbly with our God. Humility is not something that comes naturally to most of us; rather, it must be cultivated through prayerful contemplation of Scripture and time spent in communion with the Lord himself. As human beings, we tend to focus too much on ourselves; walking humbly with our God helps us to keep Him at the center of our lives, so that we can better serve and glorify Him in every area of our lives.
In conclusion, Micah 6:8 teaches us three important things God requires of us as believers (and non-believers): justice, mercy and humility. By following these three principles as best we can each day, we will honor God's heart and live a life pleasing to Him, which should always be our ultimate goal!
May we strive every day to follow these commandments in order to bring glory to His Name!
God bless you, amen!
