The Presence of God
What the Christian should seek is the presence of God, yet God's presence can either bring life or death.
2 Samuel 6:6-7, 8-9, 10-11
This portion of the Bible tells a true story: the ark of God had been taken by the Philistines, and King David organized himself before bringing the ark back to Jerusalem. It's worth noting that, at the time, God was having a meeting with this ark, which was to serve as a testimony to Israel.
Uzza and the other Israelites walked around the ark, which was placed on a new chariot and a cart driven by oxen. It is written:
"6 When they came to the threshing-floor of Nacon, Uzzah stretched out his hand toward the ark of God and seized it, because the oxen were tilting it. 7 The anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him on the spot because of his fault. Uzza died there, near the ark of God. 8 David was angry that the Lord had struck Uzza with such a punishment. And that place has been called Perets-Uzza to this day. 9 David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, "How can the ark of the Lord enter my house? 10 He would not remove the ark of the Lord to his home in the city of David, but brought it to the house of Obed-Edom of Gath. 11 The ark of the Lord remained three months in the house of Obed-Edom of Gath, and the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his house."
David was afraid to bring the ark into the city of David, so he deposited it in the house of Obed Edom.
We see the same God, but two reactions.
God's presence blesses, but it can also kill depending on how we come before him. We have to understand that we don't help God, we don't support him. If we have the grace to participate in the advancement of God's work, we must be grateful to him.
When we serve God with all our heart, his presence blesses us like Obed Edom.
God's desire is for His children to be blessed and abundant.
"John 10:10-11, The thief comes only to steal, slaughter and destroy; I have come that the sheep may have life and have it abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep."
As the year draws to a close, Jesus Christ wants to do you good. The only thing you have to do is believe in him: he's a capable God.
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you.
