The Mystery of the Eagle

"But those who trust in the Lord renew their strength. They soar like eagles. They run, and are not weary; they walk, and are not weary." (Isaiah 40:31)
The eagle is a large bird whose life is truly mysterious. Its flight, its plumage, its vision and its home, we are didactic in more ways than one.

1. The flight of the eagle
To set itself apart from other species, the eagle climbs high, leaving other birds to fly low.
You can't stand out in life if you stay on the same level as everyone else; you have to stand out from the crowd and from popular thinking.
- Popular thought had said to crucify Jesus Christ when he had come to save the world;
- Popular thought had it that the earth was flat, but Galileo had said the opposite and science later proved him right;
- Popular thought has it that a young person, at a certain age, starts having sex outside marriage, whereas the Bible says the opposite.

2. The eagle's plumage
"He it is who satisfies your old age with good things, who makes you young again like an eagle." (Psalms 103:5)

The eagle loses its vigor less quickly. When the eagle notices that its plumage is aging, it goes to a secluded spot and starts plucking out the old feathers. It stays there until new plumage appears.
In the same way, we too need to take time out from time to time for personal prayer retreats. During these moments of seclusion, the Lord will surely speak to us to either repent or examine our conscience with regard to our daily walk which, at times, does not accord with the Word of God.
The Word, being a mirror, will show us our imperfections, our old plumage. Through repentance, our old plumage (bad habits and attitudes) will fall away. The new plumage will surface. Today, the Lord wants to see a new plumage of joy, peace and grace appear in your life.

3. The vision of the eagle
"From there he spies on his prey, he plunges his gaze into the distance." (Job 39: 32)
The eagle's vision extends over 3000 km. Likewise, have a broad vision of things in life. Don't be in favor of immediacy and local solutions. Don't live only for the present, like Esau, who sold his birthright to his younger brother Jacob for a plate of lentils. Act strategically. Project yourself into life. When you think strategically, you ask yourself the right questions to improve your world.

4. The home of the eagle
"Is it by your command that the eagle soars, and places its nest on the heights? In the rocks he dwells, on the tops of the rocks, on the peaks of the mountains." (Job 39: 30-31)
Success in life depends on its foundation. You can't rise very high if your foundation isn't solid. For sure, you will vegetate. Jesus Christ is the Rock of Ages (1Corinthians 10:1-4). He's the one we can drink from; he's the one who will silence the winds and storms that buffet our lives.

May the Lord bless you
