Staying awake in our relationship with God
Are you tired of feeling tired?
Do you feel like you're sleeping spiritually and not awake?
If so, this article is for you. The Bible often talks to us about waking up and staying clear-headed to follow Christ, but how can we apply this to our daily lives?
In this article, we'll explore what it means to wake up spiritually, what the Bible says about it and how we can become more Christ-conscious in our daily lives.
In Ephesians 5:14, it says: " Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. ". This invitation was addressed to the Christians of Ephesus who had fallen asleep spiritually. They were distracted by worldly pleasures and had lost their close relationship with Christ. This invitation to wake up is also addressed to us today. Perhaps we too have allowed the distractions of our lives to pull us away from God. To regain our connection with Him, we must wake up and stay awake.
In Colossians 3:2, it is written: " Think of things above, not of things on earth ". To stay spiritually awake, we need to focus on the things of God rather than the things of this world. This means spending time in prayer and reading the Bible. We also need to seek out Christian community and surround ourselves with other believers who will encourage us to grow in our faith. By paying attention to our thoughts and choosing to actively engage in our relationship with God, we can stay aware of His love and will for our lives.
In Mark 13:32-37, Jesus describes a situation where an owner leaves his house in the care of a servant when he leaves on a journey. He asks this servant to remain vigilant and aware of his responsibility. In the same way, Jesus asks us to remain vigilant, prepare for His return and stay awake to respond to God's call at any moment. We don't know when Christ will return, but we can prepare ourselves by staying awake spiritually.
In Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus tells the story of ten young girls waiting for the bridegroom to return from a wedding. Five are ready and five are not. The five ready maidens symbolize those who were alert and awake, while the five who were not represent those who had fallen asleep. This story reminds us that we must remain alert if we are to be ready for Christ's return.
Waking up spiritually is not a one-off event, it's an ongoing process. We are called to remain aware of our relationship with God and to actively engage in our faith. It means paying attention to our thoughts, actions and attitudes, consciously choosing to stay awake in our relationship with God.
By remaining attentive to the things of God, seeking Christian fellowship and remaining vigilant for Christ's return, we can draw closer to Him and become more aware of His love and presence in our lives. So let's wake up, you who sleep! There's an amazing journey ahead with Jesus, and we all have an important part to play in this extraordinary adventure.
God bless you all!
I am edified, God bless you abundantly. Thank you for these words inspired by the Holy Spirit 🙏🏾
