Is justice fair?

The idea of a judge dispensing justice seems to be an outdated concept in today's society. Is a judicial system even necessary?

There are many proverbs that deal with the judicial system, and most of them criticize the system itself. "The dog goes back to what he threw up" is one such proverb, meaning that the judicial system often fails to correct its own mistakes. "The sow, just washed, wallows in the mud again" is another proverb that paints a picture of a judicial system that is constantly dirty and never really cleaned up (Proverbs 22).

The justice system is supposed to deliver justice, but all too often it seems to be no more than a means for the rich and powerful to enrich themselves even further. The poor and disadvantaged are left to fend for themselves, while those with money and influence can get away with murder. No wonder so many people feel cynicism and disgust towards the justice system. All too often, it seems that the truth of the proverbs "the dog returns to what it has vomited" and "the sow, barely washed, wallows in the mud again" is confirmed by the actions of those in power.

However, there are also proverbs that express confidence in the justice system. "Justice delayed is justice denied" is one such proverb, meaning that it's better to have an imperfect justice system that works slowly than no justice system at all. "A broken bone heals, but a broken heart never does" is another proverb that recognizes the importance of justice, even if it comes at a high price.
