Insurance you can hang on to
If a bandit twice your size attacks you, you have good reason to be afraid. But if your friend, who's twice as strong as the bandit, is standing next to you, then it's the bandit who should be really scared.
When you have the certainty that someone bigger, stronger and more powerful than your enemy will always stand by you and defend you, then your assurance is great.
This is no doubt why the apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote to the believers in Rome to remind them of this truth:
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1-2, LSG
Because these believers belonged to Jesus, they no longer had to live in fear. God makes all things work together for good to those who love Him, and one day He will make all things new, including our mortal bodies.
Paul doesn't stop there, he adds:
"What then shall we say in regard to these things? If God is for us, who will be against us?"
Romans 8:31, LSG
If God, the Creator who sustains all that exists, has put Himself on our side, who can be against us? Who can even touch us? What enemy would even venture to fight a losing battle?
Some enemies or problems can hurt our feelings or our bodies, but they can't touch our souls. No one can face the living God who dwells in our hearts and succeed. No one can turn against God's chosen people and not be held accountable. This means we can entrust any wrong done to us to the Lord and trust Him.
We can count on God as our just defender and judge. Even if He doesn't act the way we want Him to.
When we return to God by placing our trust in Jesus to be saved by God's grace and through our faith, God is forever on our side.
Amen!
