How did Nehemiah overcome adversity?
The Bible is a book of great wisdom and knowledge, and it can be intimidating to many people because of its size, complexity and language. Nehemiah, however, was able to overcome his aversion in order to learn more about the scriptures.
In this post, we'll look at how he did it, and what we can learn from his example.
Nehemiah's journey with the Bible
Nehemiah was an Israelite who lived in exile in Babylon in the 6th century BC. He was known for being a fervent follower of God and for his desire to read and understand the Scriptures. He was also known for his diligence in Bible study, studying day and night to gain understanding and knowledge of God's word.
Returning to Jerusalem after 70 years of exile, Nehemiah set himself the task of rebuilding not only Jerusalem's walls, but also its spiritual life. He gathered the people together to explain God's law as found in the books of Moses (Deuteronomy). This indicates that Nehemiah had spent time reading these books in depth and felt confident enough to explain them accurately. He also encouraged everyone present to observe them diligently (Nehemiah 8:1-12).
It's clear that Nehemiah was determined not only to read, but also to understand Jesus' teachings as described in the Bible, no matter how daunting it may have seemed at first. We can draw inspiration from this example by dedicating time each day or week solely to reading the Scriptures, in order to fully understand what our Lord has revealed to us through His Word.
It's important not only to read, but also to meditate on each verse in order to apply its meaning to our lives today.
Nehemiah's example shows us that Bible study doesn't have to be a chore or a burden; it can be rewarding when done with diligence and dedication.
By devoting time to reading the Scriptures regularly, we too can better understand Jesus' teachings so that we can better serve him with joy!
When faced with difficulties or intimidation regarding our Bible study, let's remember Nehemiah's example of always seeking faith-filled guidance in the Word of our Lord, before anything else!
God bless you all!
