Find your Destiny
The story of Esther is a powerful testimony in the Bible. It tells how Esther risked her life to save her people from the danger of extermination. She had to make a choice between what was easy (her personal well-being) and what was difficult (the well-being of the people). Well, she chose to sacrifice her personal satisfaction to seek the deliverance of her people, even at the risk of her own life.
Esther 4:14 shows us how the destiny of the Queen of Esther was decided at a precise moment. A radical choice had to be made. Now, she had been shaped by God and trained by a servant of God, to fulfill not her own dreams, but God's purposes for her generation. And she had been placed in this unique situation by God, for a very specific purpose.
While many of us seek only to fulfill our personal dreams and ambitions, not asking ourselves if we were even created for that, this text comes to shake us up, to remind us that God created us for higher purposes, eternal purposes. Things that will speak for us into eternity.
We were not created to serve the world, nor to do things for our own glory here below. Our time here is a passage and a preparation for eternity. Our destination depends, not on the pleasures of the moment, but on the life we choose to lead, the values we hold, the choices we make and the actions we take here below. In short, if we don't love God and our neighbor, and if we don't do what He has predetermined (His will) for us, we won't inherit eternal life.
Esther's story teaches us that God has given everyone a specific purpose. Even if the journey is not always easy, God promises to be with us as we follow the path for which He has called us.
What's more, Esther did not fulfill her destiny alone. She had the support of her community, who fasted and prayed for her. In the same way, we can't go through life alone. We need the support of our community praying for us, just as our sisters and brothers need us in their lives.
Take time today to reflect on your own story. Think about your life mission. How is God glorified in this? Do you really think this is from God?
Pray that God will give you the strength to make the right decisions in life and that you will persevere in what is His will for you.
