Getting to know yourself: An essential journey with God
Have you ever taken a moment to ask yourself:
What makes me happy?
What makes me unhappy?
What makes me unbalanced?
To ask these questions is to begin to discover ourselves. But true self-knowledge begins with God, for it is He who created us. You formed my inward parts, you knit me together in my mother's womb. "(Psalm 139:13)
How can we get to know each other better?
- Turning to God "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you what your heart desires." (Psalm 37:4)
God knows what makes us happy, far better than we do.
- Listen to your heart and emotions "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones." (Proverbs 17:22)
Our emotions tell us what we need and what hurts us.
- Assessing what troubles us "Watch over your heart more than anything else, for from it come the springs of life." (Proverbs 4:23)
What throws us off balance often reveals our fears, wounds or bad habits.
What attitude should you adopt?
- Trusting God "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5)
Even when you don't understand everything, let God guide your life.
- Seeking inner peace "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you". (John 14:27)
Learn to recognize what nourishes your peace and keep away what destroys it.
- Be patient with yourself "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2)
Knowing yourself and growing is a process, so don't be too hard on yourself.
What conclusions can we draw?
Knowing ourselves also means understanding that we were created for a purpose.
"For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works." (Ephesians 2:10)
God created you with a perfect plan. The closer you get to Him, the more you'll discover your true identity.
How can I discover you fully?
- Spend time with God in prayer.
- Meditate on the Word to understand who you are in Christ.
- Observe what nourishes your joy and peace.
- Get away from what's destroying you inside.
- What do these questions reveal?
They show what your heart is really looking for. God wants to fill your heart with His peace and love.
Today, decide to get to know yourself better by turning to the One who created you!
Pray and ask God to help you better understand who you are and what His plan is for your life.
What discoveries are you making about yourself today?
Shalom!
