The mission of God's people
(Luke 10)
20 Yet do not rejoice that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. The promise of eternal life to those faithful to his works.
26 Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? What do you read there? 27 He answered: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; (To have one God, to be faithful and devoted to him) and your neighbor as yourself.
28 Jesus said to him, "You have answered well; do this and you will live. 29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?
30 Jesus answered, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He fell into the midst of the robbers, who stripped him, beat him and went away, leaving him half-dead.31 A priest who happened to be going down the same road saw the man and passed by. 32 A Levite who came to the same place saw him and passed by. 33 But a Samaritan who was traveling there was moved with compassion when he saw him.
34 He came and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; then he put him on his own horse, led him to a guesthouse, and took care of him. 35 The next day, he drew out two denarii, gave them to the guest, and said, "Take care of him, and whatever you spend more, I'll pay you back when I return.
Among the three characters - a priest, a Levite and a Samaritan - in Luke (10:33-37), Jesus Christ teaches us compassion towards our fellow human beings. Let's take the example of the Samaritan, who exercised love, affection, pity and favor. The Samaritan took care of his neighbor, following the example of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is written, Jesus Christ went about doing good. He taught the crowds, looking on them with compassion and healing the sick...
We are all part of God's people. We are all called to serve, to be useful when needed: in our homes, families, neighbors, and even to the stranger, not to be served. It is written: he washed the feet of his disciples, even the one who was to betray him...
A great proof of humility and love, coming from the Lord Jesus Christ. We are all called to perform acts of kindness.
"An act of kindness turns a desert into an oasis".
