Dieu Seul Assure
(Isaiah 31:1): Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and lean on horses and rely on chariots, because they are many, and on horsemen, because they are very strong, and who do not look to the Holy One of Israel and do not seek the Lord!
Men often rely on material means to live a secure, serene and happy life. There are those who rely on money, because in possession of it they're pretty sure of a peaceful future, yet it doesn't take much to be stripped of this precious treasure and reduced to nothing. There are those who think that if they have power, they have the obvious guarantee of their existence, but this power can suddenly pass into the hands of others and they are nothing.
Some are supported by their children or their extended family, yet a single catastrophe can call everything into question and they are nothing. There are those who think that their intelligence, their level of education, their degree of wisdom, etc. are security for them. The question is, what can really constitute real security in this perpetually evolving world without God?
When the Scriptures declare that, "My people shall dwell in a habitation of peace and in safe dwellings, and in quiet places of rest."
(Ess. 32:18) It is in Christ that we have sufficient security in this world. Without him we are nothing... We are his people and he our security and our life. There can be no distinctly serene life apart from God (Essay 45:5). "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)
Gold, silver, knowledge, power, a professional career, or anything else, all these things belong to Him and can in no way constitute a means of salvation. He can give them in the morning and take them away in the evening as He sees fit. The mason is the true master of the work, for he alone knows its secrets. "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain; unless the Lord guards the city, he who guards it watches in vain." (Psalms 127:1)
