Those who owned a vineyard were undoubtedly among the wealthiest in the country. At that time, it was possible to associate the vineyard with prosperity, in direct proportion to its fruit yield. But is prosperity an obstacle to faith and devotion to God?<\/p>\n Here, God compares Israel to a fruitful vineyard\u2014that is, to a numerous, prosperous, and very happy people. The paradox is that Israel has instead become idolatrous in this situation. Its people have not shown Him the gratitude He expected of them.
