In difficult times like the current crisis, we need to remind ourselves of God’s promises to reassure and comfort us. Among the most powerful Psalms for this purpose is Psalm 91. This psalm is so comforting that it is commonly called « the psalm of protection ». In this article, we will explore the promises of Psalm 91 and what they mean for us in times of crisis.

Psalm 91 begins with a promise of divine protection: «Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I say to the Lord, »You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!’” (Verses 1–2) This promise is offered to all who seek refuge in God's protection. It means that we can find peace and comfort in knowing that we are under God's protection.

In verse 3, the psalmist declares that he will protect his people from the snares of illness: «For it is he who delivers you from the fowler’s snare, from the plague, and from its ravages». This promise is particularly important at a time when the world is facing a pandemic. So we can rely on God's protection to keep us healthy.

Verse 7 promises that we will be protected against external enemies: "A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but you shall not be harmed.". This promise is important, because it shows us that even when we are surrounded by danger, we are under divine protection. This gives us the strength to carry on, even when faced with difficult challenges.

Another important aspect of the promises in Psalm 91 is protection from anxiety and fear. Verse 5 promises that we will not fear the terrors of the night or the arrow that flies by day. This means that even when we are faced with moments of great anguish, we can find peace and comfort under divine protection.

Finally, the psalmist promises that God will protect us from death itself: «You will tread upon the lion and the viper; you will trample the lion’s cub and the dragon. Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he knows my name.» (Verses 13–14)) This promise is particularly powerful in helping us overcome the fear of death. We can find peace in the security of divine protection.

In these difficult times, we need to remember God's promises to us in Psalm 91. This psalm offers us divine protection against sickness, external enemies, fear and death. We can find peace and comfort in knowing that we are under God's protection.

May these promises remind us that, no matter what happens, we are never alone and that we are always under the protection of the Almighty Lord.

God bless you all!

Whatever happens, we're never alone.
