The Thirst for a Fruitful Christian Life

«If you bear much fruit, this is how my Father will be glorified, and this is how you will be my disciples.» (John 15:8)

Thirst is a desire, a craving, a need to drink. God’s desire is for us to bear fruit—and to bear it in abundance. We must first invest ourselves spiritually, and the rest will follow.

Spiritual hard work

Jesus was already attending to his Father’s business at the age of 12. Don’t wait until you’re old to attend to God’s business; you need to get involved now.

Read John 4:5–6, 31–34. In this passage, you see Jesus sitting by a well, exhausted. His disciples had gone into town to buy food. A Samaritan woman comes to the well to draw water. Jesus immediately forgets his weariness and strikes up a conversation with her in order to win her over. In the middle of their conversation, the disciples return and urge Jesus to eat. Jesus’ response is firm: «My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to complete his work» (John 4:34). JJesus did His Father’s work despite His fatigue. Today, people make many excuses for not committing themselves to God’s work.
