Then Jesus said to his disciples, \u201cIf anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.\u201d (Matthew 16:24)<\/strong><\/p>\n Jesus\u2019 cross represents the heavy burden of our sins\u2014all the suffering He endured even unto death\u2014so that we might have life.<\/p>\n It bears witness to the life we have in Jesus Christ. It constantly reassures us that Christ died for our redemption, that we have nothing left to fear. It is His cross; it is His work.<\/p>\n But if this is the path to follow, then Jesus urges each of us to carry out our Christ-like work among our fellow human beings so that they may live. Jesus suffered to give us life. Far from asking us to die for others, he did so himself for all of humanity; yet if we must suffer and die, let it be for Christ.<\/p>\n Dying for Christ is a gain for us. Dying for Christ means humbly carrying out His missionary work, for He has sent us to make disciples of all nations, each according to the gift he has received from God. Our share of suffering stems from this.<\/p>\n Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.
